What we do
ACLS works to help thousands of older people in Lewisham and Southwark a year who are 50+ from a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds. Many face common challenges with care, illness, isolation and money. We provide a wide variety of services in Lewisham and Southwark from day care, healthy living, help at home, information and advice, insurance and financial products, outreach and volunteering options.
DAY CARE SERVICES
ACLS have three day care services offering a variety of activities, therapies and delicious healthy meals to older people in the Borough of Southwark.
Black Elders Day Care
Day care for black elders with dementia, depression and other mental health issues
Black Elders Day Care delivers a range of enjoyable, therapeutic and innovative physical, arts and leisure activities that promote strong social links and physical and mental wellbeing to older people from Southwark’s black communities.
Long Weekenders Day Care
Weekend care for people with dementia, depression and other mental health issues
At our service there are opportunities to enjoy a range of therapeutic physical, arts and leisure activities. Long Weekenders complements service users’ existing support networks, providing respite to carers.
Stones End Day Care
Day care for people with physical and mental health issues, visual and hearing impairment.
Caring and secure Stones End provides an environment for vulnerable elders to take part in activities, enjoy a healthy meal and offers respite to carers.
HEALTHY LIVING SERVICES
Social activities for active older people
ACLS have two Healthy Living services for older people in Southwark. They aim to maintain and improve physical and mental wellbeing and to promote an active lifestyle for older people through the provision of therapies and activities and links to other services. Anybody over 55 is always welcome to join.
Healthy Living Centre
The Healthy Living Centre is an open access centre for older people providing a wide range of services and social activities based in north Southwark. Home cooked breakfasts and lunches are also available.
Healthy Living Project
The Healthy Living Project provides a wide range of outreach services and activities for older people throughout South Southwark.
HELP AT HOME SERVICES
Lifestyle choices for the over 50’s. Help at Home services are here for everyone over the age of 50 who would like a little or a lot of help to maintain home and lifestyle.
We provide not-for-profit services that are affordable and easy to use. Just make one call and let us take care of it all.
Handy Person Lewisham
To help with those small jobs that have become more difficult
The service helps to reduce risks and prevent unnecessary falls in the home allowing older people to maintain independence and safety.
INFORMATION AND ADVICE SERVICES
Age Concern Lewisham and Southwark have two services offering information and advice to older people in Lewisham and Southwark. CCSS and I&A aim to maximise the independence of older people by providing a range of information, advice, advocacy, casework referral and practical help services, without which they might soon require more intensive community care services.
Community Care Support Service (CCSS) Southwark
CCSS delivers an advice, information and support service through drop in, outreach and home visiting.
Information and Advice Lewisham (I&A)
This an advice service where older people can call our advice line, drop in, outreach and home visiting.
OUTREACH SERVICES
Age Concern Lewisham and Southwark have two outreach services offering access to a variety of services to older people in the Borough of Lewisham.
Ageing Well Project
A supporting people service in Lewisham
This project helps older people access services, maximise their income and increase mental wellbeing through the delivery of individually tailored support plans.
Intermediate Care Befriending
Working with you following your stay in hospital
Our service works with the Lewisham Intermediate Care Team, with the aim of helping older people to regain their confidence, independence and prevent social isolation after a stay in hospital.
VOLUNTEERING
Make a difference as a volunteer! Without the help of volunteers we simply would not be able to do our work across the two boroughs. We have many volunteering options available. If you are interested in volunteering we would like to hear from you.
COMMUNICATIONS AND FUNDRAISING
Raising the profile of older people’s needs
ACLS raises awareness of older people’s needs by campaigning and running seminars on issues that affect older people, such as age discrimination, health and social care, housing, transport and many other important areas.
